Frequently Asked Questions.

Get answers to many FAQ's below. If you can't find the answer that you are looking for then you can either call us on 0800 832 1935 Monday to Friday 8.30am until 6pm, or click on live chat.
Do you paint the bricks?
No. We use paint brushes and apply to each brick that requires colouring but it is not a paint that we apply.  It is a soluble solution that permanently dyes the brick, soaking into the brick itself, unlike a surface paint.

Our skilled technicians will mix a variety of bespoke colour pictures on site with your brickwork, creating the colour/s to permanently colour and dye your brickwork.  We can add a variety of different colours and match even the most multi coloured and aged of brickwork.

The process has been used in the UK construction industry to correct brick batch variations in new bricks for over thirty years and is a recognised brick industry remedial action.

Can you colour treat stone?
Yes, we can colour tint any type of natural or reconstituted stonework.

We often suggest though that we also seal the stone afterwards in order to provide a lifelong guarantee.

Click here to view a recent project of matching of a reconstituted stone extension.
What about the Mortar colour?
Yes, we can also colour tint the mortar joint to match too.

You can have the very best brick match but if the mortar does not match then your brickwork will still stand out, the more multi coloured a brick is the more this is the case.

It is very hard for builders to perfectly match the mortar of new brickwork so we often also colour match the mortar of new brickwork extensions, this will give you the perfect brickwork match with seamlessly blended brickwork.

Find out more about this and view a case study of mortar tinting here.

When you have completed your brickwork we can then advise on whether your mortar should also be colour matched and we can do this at the same time.
Can you Match Any Brick?
Yes, we can match any brick, including the most weathered or multi coloured facing bricks, see our gallery and read about recent case studies here.
Can you visit our Site?
If needed to yes.

We ask for images of your brickwork first as normally we can quote your project from images.  If that is not the case, we will arrange to visit your site to view your brickwork and the requirements of the job. Start though with pictures and basic details by completing our online quotation form here.
Can I have a Sample Panel?
We carry out a square metre sample panel on the first day of work at your project.

If you are not happy with the sample panel (thats never happened!) we go away and you are not charged.

On more sensitive projects planners sometimes stipulate that they must approve a sample panel prior to commencement of works.  We can visit your site and create a sample panel for you but there is a small charge for this as it involves a visit to site. Just ask for a price.
Is it Guaranteed?
Yes, all our work comes with a lifetime guarantee, guaranteed for the life of the brick and/or building.  It will simply 'weather' as normal alongside and inline with your original adjoining brickwork, no difference between the two will ever occur. It will always remain matched.

More details of our lifetime guarantee here.
What if Planners need a sample?
If planners require a sample panel prior to approval for work on site we can provide a sample panel through the post or an on site sample panel, there is a small charge for this as our technician swill have to create this for you, usually available within 7 working days.
Where can i get a suitable brick to build in?
You (or your builder) can source the brick for you to build in from your local Builders Merchant or we can do that for you.

If you choose to buy this from your local Builders Merchant we can help and advise you on which brick to build in and confirm your choice is suitable.  Essentially we can colour match any type of brick but it is best to avoid engineering bricks and other hard/smooth facing bricks as these can sometimes not give the best result.  If in doubt just ask us and we can help.

Read our guide on picking the right base brick for you to build in here.
CAN I send you copies of my plans?
Yes, that is ideal.  Send us images of the bricks that you are trying to match to, together with copies of your building plans and we can provide you with an exact quotation for both the supply of the brick for you to build as well as for us to visit your site once you have finished building and match your brickwork to match perfectly.
How long does it last?
The process is permanent and guaranteed for the life of the brick.

It will only 'weather' as normal alongside your original adjoining brickwork, no difference between the treated and original brickwork will ever occur.

Ream more about our Lifetime Guarantee here.
Can you deliver bricks already colour matched?
Yes. Although we always advise that the best option is for you to follow our normal process of building in a suitably matched textured brick and then allow a skilled Extension Match Technician to match your brickwork on site as that means we can colour match it precisely and include any natural weathering and ageing of your original brickwork and match your mortar as well, creating a seamless brickwork match.

However, we can also colour match your brickwork off site from one of our suitable base bricks and deliver to your site already colour matched ready for you to build.

Click here to see an example of our off site brick matching.
Can you repair and clean my brickwork too?
Yes. Extension Match is part of Remedial Repair and we supply a fill range of brick and stone remedial solutions, find out all about us at remedialrepair.co.uk
DIY? Can i have a go myself?
Yes, you can buy a range of base colour tints from our sister company Remedial Works here.

However, whilst these are great if you want to simply change the colour and look of brickwork (such as this customer did), matching brickwork is much harder and we recommend that you use one of our skilled and experienced brickwork technicians as it is what you do with our range of colour tints and dyes that makes the difference.

There is not substitute for skill and experience!
Do I need to seal the brickwork afterwards?
No, this is not essential.

However, sealing brickwork with an appropriate breathable brick sealer is always a good idea as this will help to protect your brickwork and keep it looking as fresh and new for longer.

We can also do this for you or supply a specialist breathable brickwork sealer for you to do this, more information on our brick sealer here.
Does the brickwork need to be cleaned?
Yes, the brickwork needs to be completely finished and cleaned before we colour match your brickwork so as to make sure it is free of general building dirt and remnants of mortar - we can also do this for you if you prefer, more information on our brick cleaning services here.

Ideally, ExtensionMatch should be the last trade to visit your site to colour match your brickwork.
Can I see before and after examples?
Oh yes, we have loads of them.  Click here to view our gallery of recent work.
can your match my old brickwork to match the new extension?
Yes, sometimes home owners have an extension in a brick that they prefer the look of and then want the rest of the brick to match that one and we can sort that for you, see an example such project here.

We have also simply changed the colour of a customers property in order to give it a new look, see an example here of a recent such project.
Does the process Affect the technical specification of my brick?
No. Our process will not interfere with the technical capability or specification of your brick and mortar in anyway.

Your brickwork will behave just as it should do as the outer leaf of your home.
Can I get a price before we start building?
Yes. Send us pictures of the bricks that you need to match to and drawings (or a brief description and approx sqm) and we can supply you with a quotation for both the bricks to build in and the Extension Match colour matching service once you have built, all as one price.
Can you make darker bricks lighter?
Yes, we can change any brick colour to any other brick colour, be that light bricks going darker, or the other way round.
My bricks just need weathering to look old, can you just do that?
Yes we can, see examples here.

We can age and 'weather' anytime of brickwork to match older adjoining brickwork, you can even buy our specialist DIY Brick Weathering Tint and do this yourself if you would prefer DIY.
Its easy to get a quotation for your project.
