Does Brick Stain /Tint / Dye Peel?
A common question that we get asked is does brick stain peel? In a word no, brick stain does not peel.
That is as long as it is a genuine brick stain solution that has been correctly applied.
Genuine brick stain and tints will absorb down into the brick from the surface to which it is applied. As opposed to masonry paints or lesser acrylic stains that will sit on the surface of the brick.
A brick stain actually dyes the pigments of the clay or concrete brick to which it is applied and therefore can not peel as a paint would that sites on the surface of the brick and can peel and flake.
For this reason, you should never paint bricks, you should only ever tint them with a brick stain.
Other advantages of using a genuine brick stain as opposed to a masonry paint are that it will look much more natural and enable natural blends and colours to be achieved.
A brick stain as allows the brick to breath and will not affect the technical characteristics and specification of the brick itself, whereas applying a masonry paint can cloak the surface of the brick and prevent the brick behaving as it should, absorbing and realising moisture.
